Rear-end auto collisions continue to be the most-frequently reported claim in our office. Did you know that most rear-end accidents occur when the trailing vehicle is following too close or driving at an excessive rate of speed. Remember to always maintain at least a two- to four-second interval between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. You should increase your following distance if your vehicle’s length requires additional stopping distance, or when weather and reduced visibility warrants. The general rule for large trucks traveling less than 40 mph is to allow at least 1 second for each 10 feet of vehicle length. If greater than 40 mph, allow at least one second for each 10 feet of vehicle length PLUS one second. Drive safe !!
