Yes! We all get an extra hour of sleep this weekend as we end daylight savings time, but there is more to do than just turn the clocks back. Now is a great time to attend to some important tasks around your home, ensuring you and your family stay safe and healthy.
- Check to ensure your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide monitors are in working order. It can take mere minutes for flames to burn home to the ground; this simple step can significantly decrease fire-related deaths. It’s worth spending a few minutes on a ladder this weekend.
- Check the filters in your HVAC system. This year it is especially vital. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we had smoke from wildfires that caused systems to work overtime. Your lungs will thank you for this one.
- Restock your First Aid kit. Take a few minutes to replenish bandaids, toss expired medications, and fix dead flashlights because stuff happens. And when it does, you’ll be ready.
Our lives are busy, and it’s easy to let some critical stuff slide, but sync these tasks up with the turn of the clock, and you are good to go for the next six months. Now enjoy that extra hour.
